A car and firearms valued at R500 000 were confiscated in Soweto, south of Johannesburg, after a botched bank robbery, police said on Thursday.Hawks spokesperson Captain Paul Ramaloko said police received information about a planned robbery at FNB in Randfontein on Wednesday.He said six robbers aborted their plan when they realised police were in the area and sped off to Soweto, where they abandoned a Ford Territory.The vehicle had been reported stolen in Springs.Police found a number of firearms including an AK-47, a LM5 rifle, a R-4 rifle, a .38 special, and a Vecktor 9mm pistol. They also recovered various rounds of live ammunition and security reflector jackets.The men fled in a white Toyota Quantum. - Sapa
